Firstly a quick guide on IP Ratings:

The IP (Ingress Protection or International Protection) code rating is an internationally recognized system. It was developed to standardize the degree of protection that “enclosures” can provide against foreign objects or materials entering into these enclosures, causing damage or personal injury.

• IP65 Enclosure - IP rated as "dust tight" and protected against water projected from a nozzle.
• IP66 Enclosure - IP rated as "dust tight" and protected against heavy seas or powerful jets of water.
• IP 67 Enclosure - IP rated as "dust tight" and protected against immersion. for 30 minutes at depths 150mm - 1000mm
• IP 68 Enclosure - IP rated as "dust tight" and protected against complete, continuous submersion in water.

In most applications in the past an IP65 rating or higher was not necessary, but looking at the way forward it might become a necessity to look at IP ratings when considering a device.
