About the Role.

An opportunity has become available for a German based Sales and PLC Support Engineer within the Industrial Automation, Battery Assembly and Battery Testing field. We are looking for a technical and experienced candidate that has a passion for this field of work. Duties & Responsibilities:

Sales & Marketing

  • Networking and developing a brand in the market
  • Researching, generating and nurturing leads in a specific international market
  • Customer visits to discuss potential projects
  • Conceptual facility design based on customer requirements
  • Project cost estimating and quote preparation

Project Management & Installation

  • Act as supporting point of contact between internal South African project team and European based activities
  • Customer visits for site survey, collecting of information, championing customer design reviews, project status updates etc.
  • Site supervision and management of installation teas and sub-contractors during facility installation and commissioning
  • Building European supplier base in terms of competence, strategic fit, delivery, and quality

Commissioning & After-sales Support

  • Act as supporting point of contact between internal South African project team and European based activities
  • Customer visits for site survey, collecting of information, championing customer design reviews, project status updates etc.
  • Site supervision and management of installation teas and sub-contractors during facility installation and commissioning
  • Building European supplier base in terms of competence, strategic fit, delivery, and quality

Training

  • Training of junior application engineers in Germany to increase skill base in line with footprint in Europe
  • The longer-term target is for the engineer in this role to manage a team of support engineers to allow focussing on Sales, Marketing and Project Management. All activities will be supported from management and engineering teams in German and South African offices.

  • Building European supplier base in terms of competence, strategic fit, delivery, and quality

Qualifications & Requirements:

Qualification and Experience

  • B.Eng Mechatronics, B.Sc Electrical Engineering or related Qualification.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in Application Engineering (PLC, HMI and Robot Programming)
  • Familiarity and experience with many aspects of systems integration (including PLC, HMI, Robotics, Motion Control, industrial networking and LV power distribution)
  • Industrial automation experience in the automotive manufacturing sector
  • Practical hands-on experience.

Soft Skills

  • Willing and able to travel as a moderate amount of travel is required
  • Individual needs to be entrepreneurial, dynamic, motivated and driven with the ability to take initiative and be creative
  • Strong communication skills and an ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Reporting Structure:

  • Candidate will report directly to senior management.
